Golden peak | Drahonice

The village of Drahonice, including the neighbourhood of Albechtice, is located 10 km northwest of Vodňany where the Strakonice – České Budějovice and Prachatice – Písek roads meet. The first written record mentioning Drahonice and Albretice dates back to the year 1257. The local archives mention the Lords of Drahonice had an arrow on their coat-of-arms and were allied with the Bavorys of Strakonice and the Lords of Křemže. There is a small castle in the village, originally owned by the nobelman Adam Schwarzenberg, previously the location of a fortress under ownership of the ruling family of Drahonice.
The look-out tower used to be a part of the castle next to a large courtyard. When the western part of the castle collapsed in the 18th century it was not rebuilt and the tower now marks the western boundary of the village square, in South Bohemia a typical example of its kind with its irregular rectangular shape.
The neighbourhood of Albrechtice lies 1 km southeast of Drahonice and, with its lakes and woods, it is a wonderful spot for walking and unwinding. The Kunšov recreational centre offers refreshments and accommodation. Today s Drahonice together with the neighbourhood of Albrechtice has a population of 350, a hunters society and a volunteer fire department which includes women in its membership. TJ Drahonice sports hall offers facilities for football and ice-hockey as well as an asphalt tennis court.
Take time to relax in our local restaurants and visit our outside dance-floor where traditional dancing is being revived in natural surroundings.
Drahonice is a member of the Blanicko-otavského microregion and Zlatý vrch unions of vilages.
