History
Let’s have a walk through the history of the area of the Voluntary Union of Municipalities Zlatý vrch (Golden Hill) (member municipalities Dobev, Drahonice, Heřmaň, Kestřany, Putim, Ražice, Skály and their settlements). We are in South Bohemia southern and west from Písek.
The evidence about the oldest life traces comes from older Quaternary – Pleistocene (beginning = 1,8 million years B.C.) – the loess-horse teeth come from the lime pit at Dobev and the mammoth grinder from the sand pit. Nevertheless the mammoth tooth was discovered at the garage building site in Písek, where the sand was transported. Let’s see wherever can traces from the ancient times be found and discovered. :o)
And first human traces? Not far from Putim. There used to be a small lake at the place of a pond and people used to settle permanently at its banks almost at the end of the Stone Age (300 – 100 thousand years B.C.). The hunters and fishermen settlements at Řežabinec were at the time of their discovery (1936) practically the only ones from this part of prehistory. Plentiful discoveries from the Bronze Time – ceramic bins, stone grinders, bronze decorations and also heat graves come from the whole micro region. Prehistoric splinters were discovered on the top of Velký Kamýk. Barrows from the older Iron Age can be found at Zátaví in the forest Kozí Hrádek and in the forest Písečná at the village Skály.
We have evidence about the settlement in Štětice from the younger Iron Age (500 years B.C). The Celtic settlement (400 – 0 years B.C.) was at Dobev, at Kestřany and Lhota at Kestřany – it is not exluded that the Celts used to wash gold at this place.
And now. We are in our era. :o)
We do not have too many documents from the Roman Era, Nations Migration and Hill fort Era which could be observed in the countryside, but human settlements existed here. The first business trails led along the river. Further and further dwellings were being built on the grounds of the original settlements.
We can find gothic, renaissance and baroque sights on the whole region area of Zlatý vrch.

Jan Čarek: Hills and groves
Hills and groves,
stay faithful for me,
rivers with the sand stars,
stay faithful for me.
Clear water surfaces,
silver fields,
sweet corns in the spikes,
cloudy trees,
fountains and rocks,
stay faithful for me,
sweet country,
stay forever with me.
