Golden peak | Putim

Putim, with an area of 1042.17 ha lies on the right bank of the river Blanice, close to where it joins the river Otava and is 6km southwest of regional capital Písek at an altitude of 386m above sea-level. It has a population of 490.
The village suffered the worst floods in its history in 2002, the damage caused on the land estimated at more than 36 million CZK. The last of the buildings in the village’s ownership to be repaired was completed in 2008.
Projects to be implemented in the next few years include the creation of a sewage treatment works and sewerage system, and the improvement of roads in the centre of the village. Some projects are also planned to improve the environment: trees are to be planted along roads around the village and a silted-up arm of the river Blanice is to be cleaned up.
There are five societies in the village which organise many events together with the village’s cultural committee: The fishing society, the hunting society, the Friends of Putim society, the volunteer fire department and the Sokol (Falcons) sports society.
The most well-known cultural event is the ‘In the footsteps of the Good Soldier Švejk’ celebration which takes place on the first Sunday of September. This celebration builds on the previous hike ’Švejková padesátka’.
Another important event takes place in October – before the village fair – the traditional fishing celebration ‘Podkostelního rybníka’
