Golden peak | Ražice

The village of Ražice, including the neighbourhoods of Štětice and Humňany, is located in the southwest of the district of Písek, neighbouring the villages of Putim, Skály, Kestřany, Dobev, Heřmaň and Drahonice, with which it is joined in the Zlatý vrch Voluntary union of villages. Its location on the B140 road ensures its importance as a centre from which the Pootavi recreational area can be easily accessed. It also serves as an important railway link on the České Budějovice – Pilsen and Ražice – Tábor lines.
The history of the village goes back to the 16th century when Ražice was part of the county of Prácheň. Originally the villages of Ražice and Štětice were farming settlements built up around small village squares located along main roads. Humňany is made up of a number of buildings, including the nearest horse stud farm to Písek.
Ražice has its own performing arts and theatre societies which have been going since the beginning of the last century. In 2004 after 40 years it was the inspiration for the Ražický hravý spolek (the Ražice Acting Society). Thanks to a natural amphitheatre, the village cultural hall and a great local cultural society, Osvětová beseda Ražice (the Ražice Cultural Association), a large number of cultural events take place here every year, e.g. The Ražický pražec (Ražice railway sleeper) folk and country music festival. Other societies worth a mention include the Ražice and Štětice volunteer fire department and the Zlatá hora (Golden Mountain) hunters society.
The village won a special award for the hosting of cultural events in 2003, in 2004 it won a blue ribbon for its social events, followed by second place in 2005 and regional winner in 2007.
