Ensemble of feudal seats with court in Kestřany
Today we can visit the ensemble of feudal seats with court in Kestřany that is very exceptionally in our country. Its individuality consists mainly in the preserved historic organism with documents on the subsequent development from the 13th century till the recent past.
The origin of the High fortress is found in the second half of 13th century. The oldest part of fortress is the so-called burgrave in the north part of court. Here you can find the preserved early gothic ribbed vault. The wooden lift bridge of gate was replaced by the present stone bridge in the 18th century.
The Low fortress was built in the 14th century. The oldest documented stork nest of the whole South Bohemia was on the roof. In the near distance there used to be the third fortress at which place the outbuildings and the early baroque castle from the second half of 17th century actually are. At present the fortresses are under the private ownership but accessible for the public.
Fortress in Klokočín
Another preserved fortress can be found in Klokočín. The prince court used to be here since long ago, mentioned in the property records as a court up to the year 1541, later the renaissance fortress was built near the court. The present building of former fortress is situated at the small hill near the river Blanice bank. Inside you can find the barrel vault, cellars made from quarry stone. The front is decorated with restored rectangle sgraffito dated at the end of 16th century. The outbuildings from the 19th century were added to the fortress. Now the fortress is under the private ownership. From April till October it is accessible for the public. Here you find the photographic and other exhibitions and the natural trace goes under the fortress.
Ruins of the former fortress in Drahonice
In Drahonice, there are ruins of the former fortress – the round tower from the 14th century. In the year 1374 two brothers Jaroš and Racek bought the municipality Drahonice and built here the fortress, rebuilt in the year 1508. During the windstorm in the year 1762 a part of building subsided and was never repaired. The two-storied round tower is preserved with loop-holes, cantilevers and the part of portal. On the north side the rests of fortification are connected to the tower, on the west side the housing building is adjacent. The rests of fortress are also under the private ownership.
Rest of gothic fortress Božovice in Božejovice
It was built at the beginning of 15th century by Jaroš from Drahonice as a original watch place in order to protect the Golden path. In the year 1741 it is documented as empty. Today the housing building is built in the fortress rests. The former fortresses are situated at the high point in the level of the Fortress´s pond, accessibly by the dike. The medieval seat was made of rectangular building of which three walls are preserved, today covered by a roof and rebuilt into the barn. To the south you can find two loop-holes in the building wall side. The walls of palace´s outbuilding with cellar show the fragments of renaissance sgraffito.
Citadel in Dvorce near Skály
Only the citadel rests of the court from the end of 14th century are preserved in Dvorce near the municipality Skály. It is situated at the flat place under the slope and its oval ground plan is partially enclosed by the water canal and ground wall. The rests of the diameter of approx. 14 m show the visible rectangular ground plan of one building of inner dimensions of approx. 3 x 5 m.
